A Must for All Teachers!

I never thought I had time for vocabulary. It just didn't fit into my schedule and I didn't think a few minutes of focus on a word would make a difference. But the research is clear that even ten minutes a day or less can help create long term memories of the words my students need to learn. Sprenger has great strategies. The book is short and to the point. This book will have a spot on my desk, so I have it at my fingertips when I want to do a quick lesson.

Cheap and Priceless!

Short and to the point! Filled with great ideas for teaching vocabulary! I can now use my time to successfully teach vocabulary in just a few minutes! I didn't think I could impact my students with such short lessons, but research proves that it works.

Simple and sensible!

Simple, straightforward, and sensible. It is a short read, but easy to implement. I was encouraged to break some old habits and build new ones, i.e. don't dumb down language just for the sake of making it kid-friendly, but rather incorporate academic and higher level content specific language into instruction and help students transfer meaning, help them rise up. When they hear the language everyday, they will know it on the state tests, growing vocabulary and strategies simultaneously. No more copying definitions and memorizing. Write real-world definitions and use words in writing to increase true understanding and use of new words.
