An Alternate Ending

Nice piece of fiction founded in fact and developed into an interesting story about what happened to MH 370. Some slick plot twists as the story goes on.....got a little hokey when the " bad guy" got loose and started dispatching passengers....Very easy read and the time line style presentation added to the suspense...

This is the most logical explanation I've heard for the complete disappearance of this aircraft! Anything that depends on a computer can be hacked!

Wow. Unnervingly possible

This is a Horror Story, right?
A serious commentary on an unfortunate flight? Worthy of serious consideration? I've no idea...but....

Mr. Newmanson may have hit upon the prefect recipe for short story success : it has all the hooks currently instilling paranoia in the public's collective consciousness:
Airplane crash, Cold war references, Area 51, involvement of the American government, religious extremists, the Internet, and an old favourite: heavily redacted documents....
And no way of validating anything Mr. Newmanson presents due to the disappearance of the site from where the source material was gleaned, a happenstance with which we are all familiar

I envision this book going viral, seized by conspiracy theorizes and C2C listeners who let's say are "broad minded" in their capacity to consider all angles of such a mystery; it only needs to catch the attention of some nutbag who IS familiar with aviation and possibly an informed amateur of airplane crashes who will share this with his fellow Nutbags, and the question of "The Secret Tapes" being truly a "work of fiction" will become irrelevant. The burden of proof rests with the respondent, so let the debates begin!

Alternatively, if this short story is ostensibly written for the frequent fliers of commuter jets around Eurooe who purchase extended essays like this to kill the 45 minutes of one such trip, and I'm not referring to the likelihood of choosing a short story about an airplane crash while on an airplane being a little twisted, I'm talking about fact checking.
I would suggest that those more familiar with modern aviation than myself could probably give a more informed opinion but mr Newmanson isn't stupid; he's stated that "The Secret Tapes" is a work of fiction, introduced his source material with lots of important looking acronyms and pronounces all such material to be authentic. He claims no responsibility for any conclusions to which one might arrive and his "credentials" sound believable. But here's my point about reading this on a short commuter flight...if you DONT know anything (like myself) about airplane technology in any way at all and you're reading this literally to fill time in between meetings, the likelihood you're going to fact check any of the information contained herein is not strong, and since the fate of that unfortunate flight plane has never been given a satisfactory explanation, one might de-board not necessarily believing Mr. Newmanson's theory, but might begrudgingly add this proffered scenario to the others currently in play.

Brilliant. And intriguing.
I read this in one sitting not because of its diminutive length, or because I'm a really good reader, but because my curiosity was very much piqued.

I have only one question:

Too soon?

Excellent book!

This is a wonderful book introducing the reader to the concepts of Ayuveda. The book is well written and has recipes which are coded for
each dosha and how the ingredients are helpful for that body type. There is a chart in back on spices and their use, and how they affect the body.
The recipes are delicious and easy to prepare. ... the color pictures of the recipes are beautifully done

This book was well thought out by the author. It is a wonderful reference book as well as an outstanding cookbook.

I was delighted with the quality of this book .
In fact, I just purchased two more of her cookbooks on Amazon.

About the Author
Jan Zlotnik Schmidt, a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor, who earned her BA from the University of Rochester in 1969, her MA from the University of Wisconsin in 1970, and her PhD from Syracuse University in 1977, teaches courses in composition, autobiography, creative writing, American literature, women's literature, and Holocaust studies. Her poetry has been published in many journals, including KANSAS QUARTERLY, CREAM CITY REVIEW, SYRACUSE SCHOLAR, ALASKA QUARTERLY REVIEW, HOME PLANET NEWS, and PHOEBE. She has published two volumes of poetry--WE SPEAK IN TONGUES (the Edwin Mellen Press, 1991) and SHE HAD THIS MEMORY (the Edwin Mellen Press, 2000)--and two collections of autobiographical essays--WOMEN/WRITING/TEACHING (SUNY Press, 1998) and WISE WOMEN: REFLECTIONS OF TEACHERS AT MIDLIFE, co-authored with Dr. Phyllis R. Freeman (Routledge, 2000).

Lynne Crockett is an Associate Professor and Writing Program Administrator at SUNY Sullivan, a small, two-year college in the Catskill Mountains of New York. She received her PhD in Victorian literature from New York University in 2004. Crockett writes a monthly column for the SHAWANGUNK journal in Ellenville, New York, in addition to publishing creative nonfiction.

An surprisingly enjoyable read.

This book has some great stories that span many authors and ages of our history. I have even taken the time, as a college student, to get my mom to read some of them as well. I am not someone who enjoys reading or english. I like math and computers. But this book I have found to offer a great variety of well written stories and I probably won't be selling it back. (This review has been written not by SageSeeker, but me, her daughter.)

Neither Peace nor Freedom delves into the entwined histories of these organizations and the aspirations and dilemmas of intellectuals who participated in them, from Diego Rivera and Pablo Neruda to Gabriel Garc�a M�rquez and Jorge Luis Borges. Patrick Iber corrects the view that such individuals were merely pawns of the competing superpowers. Movements for democracy and social justice sprung up among pro-Communist and anti-Communist factions, and Casa de las Am�ricas promoted a brand of revolutionary nationalism that was beholden to neither the Soviet Union nor the United States.

But ultimately, intellectuals from Latin America could not break free from the Cold War’s rigid binaries. With the Soviet Union demanding fealty from Latin American communists, the United States zealously supporting their repression, and Fidel Castro pushing for regional armed revolution, advocates of social democracy found little room to promote their ideals without compromising them. Cold War politics had offered utopian dreams, but intellectuals could get neither the peace nor the freedom they sought.

When Politicians Thought Poets Mattered

Patrick Iber has written an excellent history of postwar culture and politics through the prism of the support of the US and the Soviet Union for literary voices that favored their own spins on Cold War realities.
The Soviets' mantra was Peace and the Americans' Freedom, but no one, and least of all the artists pulled into this maelstrom, experienced either. Another irony is that the dissident Soviet writers' belief that they mattered politically was for more than a decade shared by all. Iber uses intriguing anecdotes to convey the confusion felt by social democrats everywhere, with emphasis on Latin America, as they were pulled to the poles of these competing political theories. With a great cameo by Allen Ginsberg on Radio Marti in Cuba in 1961, revealing another briefly shared belief that has shifted most radically in the last half century.

In this second collaboration, Wallace-Murphy and Hopkins continue a quest begun in their first work, Rex Deus. This similarly themed sophomore effort finds them making a case for identifying the Holy Grail as the bloodline of Jesus Christ and portraying subsequent efforts to protect that lineage throughout history. They claim to have been contacted by a man known only as Michael, who claims to be a descendant of Jesus Christ and a custodian of the secret of the Grail. To support their thesis, the authors recast biblical history as a vast coverup, an ingenious story concocted by priests and plotters. They continue with a narrative of church and state conspiring to maintain the secret of the Grail, beginning with the early church, through the Middle Ages and finally to the present day. To accept the authors' premise, one must consent to the idea of a massive coverup, a cabal involving church, various governments and science. Furthermore, one must agree that Jesus survived the crucifixion and lived on to raise his children and produce a family line. Drawing heavily from known secondary sources, this book offers little that is new, but rather a rehash of much that has already been published and has been heavily popularized through the novel The Da Vinci Code. It does, however, provide a readable—if fervent—overview of this controversial theory. (June)

This highly readable scholarly book traces a path through history of essential scientific and spiritual knowledge. The author's expertise is evident as he surveys other books dealing with the dynasty of Jesus, analyzing them keenly for both merits and shortcomings. It follows two other books dealing with the Rex Deus odyssey and the amazing power the group was able to obtain behind the scenes while running the show of Medieval Europe, its marvelous architecture, its complex civilization.

Well researched book into a controversial topic

I purchased this book after personally meeting the author. After reading this book, I ordered all of the other books written by Mr. Wallace-Murphy. Book is very well written, and is supported by facts. When information is not easily corroborated, author clearly states that upfront. This book will be not a pleasant reading for many people, but those who do, will gain a very valuable knowledge.

I like it, but left me wanting more

I like this book a lot, it was very informative and opened my eyes to some new things; but it left me wanting more. I feel like I didn't get the whole picture, nor really an understanding of what happened to the Rex Deus families, who they all were, and are they still practicing their believes and traditions today.

About the Author
Keith J. Kasunic has more than 25 years of experience developing optical, electro-optical, infrared, and laser systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He has worked for or been a consultant to a number of organizations, including Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace, Sandia National Labs, Nortel Networks, and Bookham. He is currently the Technical Director of Optical Systems Group, LLC. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Univ. of Central Florida's CREOL - The College of Optics and Photonics, as well as an Affiliate Instructor with Georgia Tech's SENSIAC and an Instructor for the Optical Engineering Certificate Program at Univ. of California Irvine.

Optical Systems Engineering

Optical Systems Engineering is dedicated to "anyone who finds this book useful." That should cover a large audience of optical science majors looking for a practical textbook on the subject. It should also include a large number of lens designers and optical engineers who would be interested in an accessible overview of the complete systems approach to optical engineering.
Optical Systems Engineering is just what it says it is; a text that covers the entire systems approach from geometrical lens design and radiometry through optical sources and detectors, focal plane arrays, and optomechanical design considerations. Lens designers looking for greater depth in the optical design area should look to texts such as Optical System Design by Robert Fischer, et al., but those texts do not cover the systems engineering discipline. For an accessible introduction to optical systems engineering, either as a classroom textbook, or as a reference text, you will not find a better example than Keith Kasunic's Optical Systems Engineering.

Can't put it down

Promptly arrived and in perfect condition. The book has a marvelous way of describing what can be at times difficult concepts that I have needed to learn while working in the industry. It has also provided me insight into methods so far as one looking to further my career in Optical Engineering and Optical Physics that I had only heard mentioned by professors and others. It's great to see so many of the lessons I had to learn the hard way in print and I look forward to referencing this book for years to come

Fantastic book. I am slowly working my way through it. I have been working in this field for a long time and I have found the text to be a great review and very accessible. I primarily do opts-mechanical work, so it's been great to read through the focal plane stuff and also other chapters on topics that I am fully aware of, but don't work in every day.
