Hoping for More...

Perhaps I had too high expectations for this book. Perhaps having to pay an inflated price for the book, since it's out of print, lent to those high expectations. This book is simply OK, and I feel that I am being generous with a 3 star rating, offering deference to Mr. Scoblete. I have a hard time getting behind this book...it simply lacks "meat," as another reviewer comments -- some of its content just seems to be filler and "feel good" advice.
Again I have to agree with a different reviewer to the notion that Mr. Scoblete seems to feel this is a title needing to be written to round out his repertoire of his other books on casino games. His writing feels as if it lacks conviction and passion for the game.
As to this title's content...it's good for the novice baccarat player. But there is nothing particularly revealing for the intermediate to advanced player. For myself, his advice on reducing the "Bankers" commission to 4% (instead of 5%) was the most practical tip I got from the book -- but his strategy won't work at all casinos, it depends on their policy for charging commission on winning "Bank" wagers.
Mr. Scoblete does advise learning a card counting method to reduce losses, and provides a card counting system devised by Mr. Tamburin. I would commend Mr. Cardoza's "The Bacccarat Master Card Counter" as a simple alternative, should you wish to delve into card counting for baccarat. But keep in mind, as Mr. Scoblete states, card counting is no "magic bullet,"as it does not lend itself to baccarat as it does in blackjack.
For this titles original price, I wouldn't have griped, it makes a nice addition to a baccarat collection. There are some little gems contained in the book, even if they are not much in the way of gaining an advantage in the game of baccarat (for instance, his quotes from baccarat players and interviews with baccarat legends). But I can't recommend others to peruse the same course of action I did in paying multiple times this books original price solely for the content.

Great Condition and Good Price

It took me about year-and-a-half to get this book because it was always so expensive at one point. This seller was awesome and the book came nearly brand new. Thank you so much for a book that had no marks or wears at the edges. The book is a wonderful read and I would recommend The Baccarat Battle Book to anyone interested in such a good game.

More a guide to pleasurable gambling

Do not buy this book looking for how to walk out of Bellagio with more than you walked in with. Scoblete is straight forward about the odds in Baccarat and more interested in teaching you how to get the most out of playing the game with the lowest house edge.
Brief descriptions of well known betting strategies are included. Greater detail is given however to the rituals of the game and how to use them to slow down play; thus gaining more comps for longer playing time at high dollar tables while risking no more money than you would playing mini-bac.
An interesting easy read, but certainly not the final word.
