Vincent J. Genovesi, SJ, received his PhD in Christian ethics from Emory University. He is a professor at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. His articles have appeared in such journals as The Thomist, The Way, America, and Review for Religious.

Very Good Overview

This excellent work by Genovesi highlights many of the important concerns in Catholic sexual ethics today. It is a very well-balanced book and offers the reader a wealth of interesting information. It is also easy to read, though long, and stirs up questions about how to be faithful to the Church teachings while being pastoral. I would recommend the book for someone who would like to know more detailed information on the Catholic view of Love and Sexuality and would also urge that reader to look over the various Church documents at the same time (i.e. Humanae Vitae, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons, Casti Conubii, and others).

Enlightening discussion of Catholic sexual ethics

This book adequately presents all major issues in sexual ethics and provides an illuminating discussion from the perspective of Catholic moral theology. The author gives room to all positions within the broad array of Catholic moral theologians today. As opposed to the dogmatic view of some manuals still used by seminaries and confessor, the author devotes space and energy to the discussion of moral arguments behind each moral solution. This book is very helpful to any layman or priest that wants to make sense of Catholic moral teaching in sexual matters.

A great resource for adults, both young and old, who are concerned with faith and living morally. Honest and straight forward, Genovesi confronts sexual issues that are sometimes difficult for the average individual to accept. His combination of theological and pyschological teachings deserves appreciation. Genovesi reveals the essentials of Love and sexual morality to those who need it the most, i.e., everyone.

Vernadsky has become more popular since USSR fell

Contrary to what the previous reviewer has heard, George Vernadsky was criticized during the Soviet era by the Moscow regime because he was not a Marxist but a traditional historian. His learnings were with the White forces in teh Russian Civil War and he fled Russia when the Reds won. He has become popular since the USSR collapsed because he is a "Euroasianist" who sees Russia as a multinational empire throughout history that was trying to operate (and should) as a nation. He was never opposed to Russian greatness, just to the Soviet dictatorship which had driven him from his beloved homeland; which was the Ukraine within a Greater "Eurasian" Russia stretching across to the Pacific. This grand view is popular with President Putin and other "nationalists" who want post-Soviet Russia to still be a major world power as Tsarist Russia was before the Communist Revolution.

Here are the complete texts of his early landmark collections, Notes of a Native Son (1955) and Nobody Knows My Name (1961), which established him as an essential intellectual voice of his time, fusing in unique fashion the personal, the literary, and the political. "One writes," he stated, "out of one thing only—one's own experience. Everything depends on how relentlessly one forces from this experience the last drop, sweet or bitter, it can possibly give." A great book -- A worthy part of a great series

I love James Baldwin--I think he's a tremendous writer, so Toni Morrison could hardly go wrong in selecting essays for this volume. All of the selections are excellent. Notes of a Native Son contains a touching eulogy for Richard Wright ("Alas, Poor Richard"), explaining the lonliness and problems Mr. Wright had at the end of his life. Baldwin displays his tremendous range as both a political commentator and a literary critic. The Devil Finds Work, in particular, is very insightful--and several parts humourous.
What I don't understand--and why I struck a star off this collection--is why Ms. Morrison did not include "Evidence of Things Unseen," Baldwin's analysis of the Atlanta child murders from the early eighties. Perhaps Library of America is planning later volumes of Baldwin's works--The companion volume to these essays is his "Early Novels," most notably "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Giovani's Room." I can't imagine that Library of America would not produce a volume including Mr. Baldwin's later works--especially "Just Above my Head."
This particular edition is well worth having--despite the price. First, this is a good collection of Baldwin's essays, many of which are difficult to find. Second, the Library of America really does a commendable job in paper quality and binding. This is not a leather bound edition on 50 pound paper, so stiff you can't open it and printed so the back binding looks impressive on your bookshelf--this is tightly bound, cardboard cover that lies flat, and is easy to read. The paper is not heavy--but acid free, and tear resistant. The Library of America series are good collections that are meant to be read many times, by many people--these books hold up very well.
I am afraid that Mr. Baldwin's works and opinions may fall by the wayside as time passes. The fact that Ms. Morrison--one of our best and most respected authors--put these collections together will certainly help keep Mr. Baldwin's works alive. But if you have any interest in what it means to be African American--in the twenties, to contemporary america--through even tomorrow--You need to read and appreciate Mr. Baldwin's insights. And you will also enjoy his clear, careful, and pointed writing.

Anti-Gravity Classic: 5 Stars

David Childress compiled this now classis collection of works relating to the geometric structure of the planet, the "world grid". Ancient civilizations knew about this geometry and sited their monuments at its points, including the Great Pyramid, Easter Island, and the Chinese and Maya pyramids. The Bermuda triangle is one such point among many. Many unusual natural features also occur at points which correlate with the earth grid geometry. For example, the Hawaiian volcanic seamount occurs at a 'tetrahedral' point which will be of interest to readers of Hoagland's Mars materials and followers of Drunvalo's flower-of-life work.
The book includes, among others, articles by Bethe Hagens & William Becker, who designed the EarthStar globe; Barbara Hero calculates and explains the musical equivalents of globe distances; Bruce Cathie's early method of detecting grid patterns through UFO sightings, and anomolies at other points, including nuclear testing.
A.G.W.G. shows many maps of the geometric relationship of sacred places, including the world, Europe, Afica, and Cairo. Also shows the maps of sites in Somerset England in the pattern of the costellation Canus Major. I highly recommended it for students of Earth Mysteries, Sacred Geometry, and for alchemists.

This book has some worthwhile information

This was a decent book. There certainly are Energy Grids on Earth, but I question some of the author's opinions on them. One article in particular that I felt was pretty good is "Diamagnetic Gravity Vortexes", however, I do have a criticism of the author.

Dr. Richard LeFors Clark wrote "Diamagnetic Gravity Vortexes", which is in this book. It is an interesting article, but the key points he makes, such as the fact that the North and South poles of magnetism reverse their polarity in the Bloch Wall (at the exact center of the magnet) in a broken figure eight pattern (he calls it a 'bow tie'), and that each magnetic pole has the opposite vortex spin (North pole spins counterclockwise, South pole spins clockwise), were all discoveries first made by Albert Roy Davis, yet Clark doesn't even mention Davis in the article. That particular information and diagrams 5, 6 and 7 on page 63, and diagram 8 on page 65 were taken from "Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System", written by Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls, Jr. Clark's article is also mentioned numerous times in "The Shift of the Ages", by David Wilcock, but again, no acknowledgment or credit is given to Albert Roy Davis, the scientist who actually made those revolutionary breakthroughs. David Hatcher Childress did give credit to Davis and Rawls on page 10, the entire contents of which came from the above mentioned book, but he surely must have known that Clark was using their work and not crediting them for it because diagram 5 on page 63 is the exact same diagram on page 10, taken from Davis and Rawls' book.

It's interesting to note that torsion fields are said to have either a left handed or a right handed spin, or "torsion". They are also said to have either a pushing or pulling effect in the universe. Is it just another coincidence that Davis and Rawls discovered that North pole magnetism CONTRACTS (attraction) matter, while South pole magnetism EXPANDS (repulsion) matter? In fact, they wrote in "The Magnetic Effect" that the North pole has a pulling effect and the South pole has a pushing effect. So which is it, the chicken or the egg? Are torsion fields the more basic, more important energy? Based on the discoveries of Davis and Rawls the torsion field proponents have it wrong. MAGNETISM is the most basic energy, not torsion fields, nor electricity or gravity for that matter. And the evidence of this is that magnetism/electromagnetism PRODUCES "torsion fields", it isn't the other way around. Of course, those espousing the importance of torsion fields don't mention magnetism too often because the parallels between what they are saying and what Davis and Rawls stated in their books many years earlier would become quite apparent. Walter Rawls has stated that magnetic fields change form, so even if they can't be measured with current technology, they are there nonetheless. Here is a related quote from Rawls. "The search for the ultimate nature of reality has to come from the acceptance and development of the two different controlling energies of magnetism." Magnetism is THE FOUNDATION of physics. Going back to at least the 1970's Davis and Rawls foresaw that the Russians (among many others) would try to take credit for some of their discoveries, they just hadn't yet figured out how. Now we know. They decided to give them a new name and use synonyms to describe them. It's the Russian "torsion physics", or "torsion fields".

To quote Davis and Rawls in their first book, "Gravity is a form of electromagnetic and physical magnetic results." In other words gravity is the RESULT of electromagnetic/magnetic energy, it is NOT a separate form or force of energy. Knowing this, we can see that anti-gravity is truly possible. In describing the center of the broken figure eight in the Bloch Wall, Davis and Rawls wrote "This is the center of the 180 degree phase change. This line indicated by the letter O further indicates that we have no magnetic lines of force that carry either the negative or positive pole effect at this position. Instead, we have a division or zero point of energy radiation."

Davis was well known to the U.S. government as early as the 1940's, for example, he was an aeronautical electronics engineer during World War II when he worked on top secret aircraft. He wrote what was very likely the first scientific paper on the danger of radioactive fallout, in 1946. Congressman Bennett secured the government's acknowledgement in 1962 that Davis was one of the first to recognize the danger. In the 1940's Davis also informed the government that North pole magnetism could be the answer to cancer, which he and Rawls have since proven correct. Prior to meeting Davis, Rawls was an advisor to several U.S. Presidents, he worked with the CIA (he was even offered the position of Deputy Director of the CIA in the Nixon administration, which he declined a few months before Watergate), he was a UN consultant, and last but not least, an attorney. Davis and Rawls were "unofficial" consultants to the United States government on the use of magnetism. Many famous researchers have had a keen interest in their work including Buckminster Fuller (inventor of the geodesic dome), Harold Sherman (whom they worked with on ESP research), Dr. Robert Yerkes (founder of the Yerkes Primate Research Center), and many others.

There are some articles in this book that are worth contemplating. The books by Davis and Rawls though, are ESSENTIAL reading. And their discoveries on how North pole magnetism affects animals and humans are even more exciting, such as the fact that it can extend our lifespans, increase our intelligence, and increase our psychic abilities! I'm interested in Coral Castle too, but you will learn a lot more about magnetism from reading books by Davis and Rawls than you will by reading "Magnetic Current" by Edward Leedskalnin. In addition to their books I highly recommend reading the article titled "The Scope of Biomagnetism", written by Davis and Rawls. It is on the Teslatech.info website. Walter Rawls has described biomagnetics as "the Shangri-La of Nature", and it is!

Don't Waste Your Time

I was very excited about this purchase, but felt cheated when it finally arrived. I had hoped for a serious, systematic, scientific overview of the World Grid, and was sorely disappointed.

This book contained numerous grammar and punctuation errors, and shoddy images. It is difficult to take any book produced so unprofessionally seriously. If an individual does not attend to such details, how fastidious can they be about their scientific research? I try not to be completely superficial on this count, and have overlooked modest errors in small-press books that cannot afford top notch editing, but this level of incompetence is simply unacceptable.

I gave the book two stars instead of one because it does contain some useful information. For example, it includes a map of the grid as postulated by innovative Russian researchers, and correlates the locations of ancient monuments such as the Pyramids with node points. However, most, if not all, of this information can be unearthed with rudimentary web searches. The book does little more than make a flimsy circumstantial case for the existence of the Earth Grid, and most of the articles seem like drivel or filler.

I think the Earth Grid may exist. I was eventually able to find coherent descriptions that were not absurdly vague and are not the ramblings of lunatics. Not like most of Anti-Gravity and the World Grid, in other words. Books like this are the reason so many esoteric/alternative scientific theories have a bad rap.

One final note. I would exempt some of Bruce Cathie's work from these criticisms. The book contains articles written by different individuals, and Cathie is one of them. Cathie doesn't usually do a very good job of explaining things in laymen's terms, but I believe some of his claims/theories are correct.
