In the 1983 volume, the chapters on monologue and dialogue discourse were moved to the fore of the book and the chapters on case grammar were made less prominent; the volume was then renamed The Grammar of Discourse. The current revision features more clearly than its predecessors the intersection of discourse and pragmatic concerns with grammatical structures on various levels. It retains and expands much of the former material but includes new material reflecting current advances in such topics as salience clines for discourse, rhetorical relations, paragraph structures, transitivity, ergativity, agency hierarchy, and word� order typologies.

Good Book on Bearded Dragons

This was a great book for my second grader. He had been wanting a bearded dragon book. After reading reviews on lots of different books, I was concerned that we would end up having to buy multiple books to find the right one for him. This book is setup in chapters, with plenty of reading and photos that a second grader likes. The reading level is definitely higher, but I can read it with him and help out. He can read a lot in the book with help on the bigger words and harder sentences. It also has lots of text boxes with extra information.

Although an elementary level child can read this, I also enjoyed reading and getting the information for our bearded dragon. It provides plenty of information about juvenile and adult bearded dragons.

This is not written as an all inclusive instructional book/manual on everything you need to care for a bearded dragon, but it does give a lot of the information you would need to know. Whether you are considering one, or already have one, this book is a good read and you will learn something from it.

My 8 year old loves it

Bought this for my 8 year old son who is considering getting a bearded dragon. He has read it cover to cover several times and learned so much about the bearded dragon. He is now using this book for a book report (3rd grade). It's very informative for him - as well as for me (his mom) in learning how we would need to care for one.

One of our kids wanted to have a pet and he is a huge reptile fan so we chose Bearded Dragons. I am now the most please person in the house. These guys are a blast. We purchased a book from the store from which we purchased the Beardies and though it was helpful, this book has been much more helpful to me. The writing style is right up my alley and helps me understand if we are doing the right things to maintain the health of our pets. It covers housing, food, relationships, general care, travel, and just about everything I need at this point. I very much enjoy this book and consider a great reference.

"When marrying someone, remember: the good gets no better, and the bad only gets worse."

I cannot think of a better way to encapsulate the great theme of this book than the headline, which I have said to a few friends who have been thinking of getting married.

A relationship is not supposed to be that difficult, and the author discards the notion that relationships are about bargaining, compromise and hard work, and instead observing the type of person the other partner is.

Everyone in the world needs to read this book because it is simple, direct and valid with actual facts and figures that can be used. The author speaks of the "honeymoon period" of a relationship, wherein the prospective partner is putting their best foot forward, but after three months, their true nature begins to reveal itself.

It is this true nature on which one should judge their perspective partner.

The author then continues with a number or easily relatable examples of situations written with a sardonic, direct tone that does not try to sell the lie that has so often been posited that one should walk into a relationship accepting flaws and ready to bargain and compromise. Instead, this book argues we should focus on the flaws because they do not get any better through the course of relationship.

If people read this book, there would simply not be that many divorces.

Book teaches you as much about you

Looked this book as it was recommended to me by friends. I thought it was going to be a guide to examining the behaviors I encountered with others. While there is of great insight and advice there, I found it much more helpful in seeing my faults and the reasons behind them. I would recommend this book to anyone who is either in, considering or has fallen out of a relationship at some point in their life. Meaning pretty much everyone.

Best book I've read on relationships

I read "How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk" by the same author. When I was flipping through "How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk", it looked like the exact same book with just a different title. If it's not, then I apologize for this review.

The author introduces a RAM model which shows the sequence of steps you take which will lead to commitment. You have to do A before you do B. For example, you have to know someone before you trust someone. You have to trust someone before you get physical with someone, etc... When people are anxious for intimacy, they tend to skip over this and create a pseudo-intimacy which leads to a broken heart.

My favorite chapter is the one that deals with a person's conscience. The author warns that you cannot be someone else's conscience for them. You cannot be the angel on their shoulder that whispers to them to do the right thing. It's much better to pick someone with a healthy and consistent conscience in the first place so you don't have to worry about them mistreating you when they're out of your sight. My mom did this with my dad, always trying to keep him in line like he was her son. It didn't work. It lead to mutual disrespect and eventual divorce.

This is best book I've read on relationships and one of my favorite go-to books when I'm trying to decide if I'm moving the relationship too fast. Highly recommended.

Awesome boo, even for advanced players! Re-learn your basics with a unique twist!

Dude this is a totally awesome book. Like even if you're a semi professional drummer like me, you can totally benefit from the very first exercise which works a unique kind of coordination. He makes you verbally say the downbeat and play the exercise which is actually harder than it sounds. I know I was taught to tap my foot and play but honestly when you play it is not garanteed that you will play a limb just to keep time. So this makes you think extra hard, I know my time keeping improved tremendously. Because honestly as drummers when we get excited our tempo tends to rush cause the band is also excited. This book will teach you to counter that I maintain your focus. You know I play a lot of musicals and I always thought I had bad time because sometimes i would not be with the conductor. And I was constantly asking myself what I was doing wrong. And after doing half of the book I am actually able to know when people rush or drag, even slightly! Thats the power of the exercises. It will also teach you how to play whatever figure you want, whenever you want and maintian that time keeping focus. This probably the best book I can recommmend to any other paying drummer out there! A must buy.

Excellent resource for drummers of all experience levels

As someone who is a beginner on drums -- I've been looking for good resources to get me started. An expert drummer friend recommended The Language of Drumming DVD and book and I'm very glad I bought it. Benny does a great job speaking in simple terms that anyone can understand and the DVD is entertaining. I like the material here because it can apply to any style of music. Highly recommend for experts and beginners alike.

Great for all instruments!

Fantastic DVD and book for musicians of ANY instrument. Benny's exercises are extremely useful and logical and can easily be adopted to guitar, sax, keyboards or whatever you play. Time is perhaps the most critical element in playing music and this DVD will really help improve your accuracy.
