About the Author

Professor Carpenter has a BS from California State University (Humboldt) and University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and an MBA from California State University (Bakersfield). He also completed graduate studies in enology at the University of Bordeaux, France. Before obtaining his PhD in strategy at the University of Texas, Austin, he worked in banking, management consulting, and software development. His research concerns corporate governance, top management teams, and the strategic management of global firms, and is published in SMJ, AMJ, AMR, AME, JM, and HRM. He serves on the editorial board of AMJ, was voted Professor of the Year by MBA students, and identified as one of the most popular professors in the BusinessWeek MBA poll. He recently received the Larson Excellence in Teaching award from the School of Business, and the UW's Emil H. Steiger Distinguished Teaching Award.

Let me begin by saying that Konstantinos' "Nocturnal Witchcraft" and its companion "Gothic Grimoire" included in the set are one of the few Llewellyn books I would ever recommend to anyone. Please do not let the titles suggest that what you will receive is a wrist-slitting church of satan tome intended to teach you how to summon up the forces of darkness to curse your enemies and enslave lovers. No, what you are receiving here (and as is clearly stated by the back matter, and clearly stated by the publisher name?...) are two manuals on a nocturnal take on Alexandrian Wicca. Those of you who favor the romantic "shadowside", the mysteries of the night, the energies of the Moon, and dark gods and goddesses of ancient pantheons, but want to maintain strong, ethical and moral values should buy this set. What you get here are two manuals on non-fluffy Wicca for night owls. In Nocturnal Witchcraft, you will learn the preliminaries. I own these 2 books and plan on Owning the Rest of his Work
but let me say its worth well your time/money to Accquire these 2 beginnner Books.
He is very Thorough and Percise in every explaination and every magickal rite/item listed and Konstantinos has a well Documented History of having a Advanced Understanding of WichCraft,The Gods/Goddesses associated with his Style of Dark Paganism and in this book it Shows His tireless efforts to being as Accurate and as Helpful to new Witches or Witches wanting to explore a new form of Magick. I firmly believe this may be a Great Form of WitchCraft for people more attuned to The Night Time instead of Day time to perform Magick.

A beautiful story that radiates love, forgiveness, and hope.

A beautiful love story - the love between friends, the love between a dating couple, the love between a married couple, the love of family, the love for community, the love between church families, and above all, the love our Heavenly Father extends to each of us.
What a delightful and refreshing book to read! This is one that I truly did not want to put down. Ms Durgin does a wonderful job of blending all of the above mentioned love stories onto the pages of a charming and fun story where two separate worlds collide into one beautiful fairy tale. Love, forgiveness, and hope radiate from the pages.
This is the second book in the Wondrous Love Series. Although an absolutely beautiful story, you will want to read Book 1, Love So Amazing, as a lead-in to this one. You will glean so much more by reading them in sequence.

In A Class All By Itself!

I have read almost all, if not all, of JoAnn Durgin's books. Every book--every series of books--have been excellent. Her characters are always ones that you fall in love with - or at least - want to bring home with you and her details and descriptions place you right in the midst of the books. You may find the encouragement you need or your faith may be increased through the scriptures she shares in her books, and when you finish the book, you are ready for the next installment.

Ms. Durgin's latest book Love So Divine is all of the above and more. Quite frankly, it is in a class all by itself. The story line involves two people, Heather and Chase, who could not be more different if they tried. They come from different backgrounds, their "upbringing" had no similarities at all, and their careers are as different as night and day. They determine not to give into the attraction they feel for one another, but God has other plans for them.

This is another beautiful love story written by Ms. Durgin, but what makes it stand out is the amount of scriptures used and the overall evangelical message throughout the book. Ms. Durgin presents the message effortlessly as her hero, Chase, is a youth pastor and lovingly shares the gospel with the youth under his ministry, and with Heather as well.

Not only did Ms. Durgin present the evangelical message in Love So Divine, she also encouraged readers with hope, a reminder of mercy and grace and the message of faith. When I finished reading the book, I was ready for the next installment.

This is one book you must read. So, the next Sunday afternoon when Spring has disappeared again, grab your favorite afghan, a cup of tea and sit down and read Love So Divine. It will change your life!

Ron White's memory book review

This book by Ron White will do as the title says...Improve Your Memory.... I read Josh Foer book on the Memory Championships and it motivated me to find out more about the mechanics of improving one's memory. I researched some other champions (Tony Buzan, Scott Hagwood and Ed Cooke) before finding Ron White's memory training information. His orderly simplistic presentation allows you to experience improvement immediately. Since using his training I am remembering list of items and trivial information long after I have no need to retain it. This book has shown me how versatile these methods can be. I have recommended it to others and if you want to keep your mind active, remember names and faces, vocabulary, numbers longer than a telephone number or anything that you may use an external memory device, i.e. notepad, this book is for you. I rate it 5 full stars.

I always thought I had a poor memory - turns out I don't!

Let's get the errors out of the way - yes they exist, numerous typos. If you choose to focus on that and miss the point of the book then you just wasted your own money because the information is terrific. (Maybe when they fix the typos the price will shoot up to $22.99, I'm happy with the $2.99!). Good, now we can focus on the book!

I am a 41-year-old mother of three and am hoping to return to school this fall. I was looking for a book on improving study skills to retain information because I believed my memory to be in sad shape. In two days I have learned to count in Japanese, I've learned the presidents in order backwards and fowards, a portion of the Bill of Rights and a foundation for learning and retaining that will be invaluable. They really should teach this in school from an early age. I've been reading it with my daughter and am downloading a copy for my son, who is also heading off to college.

I bought three books on memory (Your Memory - Kenneth Higbee, Remember, Remember - Ed Cooke and this one). The Higbee book covers a lot of background on memory and how the brain functions and may eventually teach me how to improve my own memory, but it's been a slow read. I have taken a small stab at the Ed Cooke book, but again it has been slow to warm up. This book dives right in with exercises and quick understanding to produce immediate results. I appreciated how the author used certain lists that appeared to not make sense, only to have them turn into valuable lessons further along in the book.

My memory has been getting worse and worse as time goes on and I seem to struggle daily with some things, its almost like I have an amnesia sometimes so with interest I read this book from Ron White and had great fun doing so.
Its written in an interesting way that it never gets boring and just keeps associating things that truly have been a godsend for me.

I have tried some of the memory association 'tricks' on my friends and they were amazed at the 'magic', but of course as Mr White explains its not magic but just a way to access the information that's already there in our brains neatly filed away.

Really enjoyed this book and have already recommended to a fair few people, you certainly won't forget it!

I was elated to understand most of it, thanks to much previous reading in Spanish , Frrench and Italian, as well as to discover I already practice or have many of the traits of...voila!....a genius! It's nice to know I am on the right track, not that I'm consciously trying to be a genius or that I think I am one. No, I was just trying to see if the book was easy or hard to comprehend. TALKS MORE ABOUT PSEUDOCODE THAN ACTUAL CODE. The book shows more pseudocode than the actual javascript code with it's examples. There is Javascript examples but not as much as there should be.

So out of date it is pitiful

Once you "learn" something about JavaScript in this book, you will have to turn around and RE-LEARN how to correctly program JavaScript. Just for example, the book uses such ancient constructs as prompt() and document.write(), JavaScript code that has been obsolescent for at least 10 years and completely obsolete for the last several years.

It is unconscionable that an author would foist five to 10 year old material off on poor struggling students and, at the same time, over-charge for such by a factor of at least five times.

Any instructor who chooses this book to teach a MODERN class in JavaScript should be ashamed of herself/himself. Students assigned this book should protest to the school that they are being taught techniques that are so far out of date as to make the instruction worthless in a contemporary environment.

This book utterly fails to be a good introductory text for programming. It fails completely to be a good resource for JavaScript as well. It's very hard to describe why.. it's just a terrible and uninspiring book that no one else should bother purchasing.

About the Author
Paul Sann (1914-1986) was one of the great newspapermen of his generation. A lifelong observer of organized crime, he previously wrote about outlaws and frontier desperados in Pictorial History of the Wild West (1954, with James D. Horan), and about gangsters in The Lawless Decade (1957)–his lively account of the Roaring Twenties, which was reprinted by Dover Publications in 2010. An authority on New York City crime and politics–“those Gold Dust Twins of Manhattan civilization”–Sann quit high school in 1931 to become a $12-a-week copyboy and, in turn, a reporter covering all the beats (courts, police, housing): a rewrite man, Washington correspondent, night city editor, managing editor, city editor, and, in 1949, executive editor, running the day-to-day operations of the New York Post for almost 29 years. In addition to writing front page headlines and “putting out” the first edition, even as an executive, Paul Sann never stopped being a reporter. In 1951, he broke the story of Joe DiMaggio’s retirement. In 1955, his explosive interview with Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in international reporting. In 1964, he covered The Beatles’ first invasion of the U.S., and, in 1968, he took to the blood-drenched streets of Chicago to cover the Democratic National Convention. In 1973, he traveled to the Soviet Union with New York Mayor John V. Lindsay under the guise of an “urban affairs expert,” but really to write the story of the dissident Moscow Jews battling to emigrate to Israel. In October of that year, when the Yom Kippur War broke out, Sann, then 59, flew to Israel to report on the war firsthand. KILL THE DUTCHMAN! is the fifth of Sann’s seven works of nonfiction.

Excellent Book on the Dutchman and His Times

This is probably the best book written about crime in the 1920s and 1930s, Dutch Schultz, and his life and times. Author Paul Sann has written a tough and revealing book second to none about this amazing era. A most read for anyone interested in these subjects.

Paul Sann Covers His Subject Well

Paul Sann's effort in bringing back a violent period in America's history is successful in his account of the life of Arthur Fregenheimer, better known to intimates as "Dutch" Schultz, The Beer Baron of the Bronx. A detailed account of The Dutchman's demise is given and those involved in The Palace Bar and Chop House in Newark, New Jersey, in October of 1935. Three of Schultz's cronies in addition to The Dutchman were dispatched in a gunfight in which Charlie Workman shot Schultz in the mens' room. The book is filled with infamous names from the prohibition days in New York's underworld. Author Paul Sann has written other books regarding the post World War I era, and this book on Dutch Schultz illustrates the stressfulness of just staying alive for gangsters during this time period.

Portrait of a Mobster

This is one of my favorite gangster bios. Dutch Schultz was one of the most colorful and vicious mobsters of the Prohibition era and Sann's lively, tough prose brings the Dutchman vividly to life. No source notes for the more academic-minded readers but take it from me, it's "on the level" as Arthur Flegenheimer would probably say.
