Still Love This Book

Loved this book when I was a kid; I am 71 now and just bought it for my granddaughters. It's one of half-a-dozen or so books that I must have read100 times: Others were Lad: A Dog, Heidi, Arabian Nights, Swiss Family Robinson, the Secret Garden, a romantic novel called To Have and To Hold (I forget author's name), and The Enchanted Canyon, by Honore Willsie Morrow (the latter two belonged to my mother and were probably not intended for children, but I loved them). Of all of these, Laddie was probably the one I most loved. OK, most of these books need some explanation in terms of racial, national, religious, and gender biases, but readers must understand that authors tended to express ideas prevalent in their times, and no doubt our contemporary works will seem similarly biased to future readers. Laddie, particularly, describes a way of life now long gone but still a part of what makes Americans who we are.

Great price, Excellent story

This paperback edition (Wilder Publications) is a good price and the book is bound well. There are a number of typographical errors that would have been relatively easy to catch, which make it clear that this was a quick copy from a public domain site, and not a labor of love for the story. It's a BEAUTIFUL story and if I could be paying the author or someone like her instead, I would have preferred that. As far as reading it, LOVE IT! Every book by this author is magical in the way it brings every detail to life and makes you FEEL like you are there. Whether you want to interest a child in plants and butterflies, build character, inspire great writing, or simply enjoy a trip back in time, you'll not be disappointed for a moment.

Semi-autobiographical? What a lucky woman!!!

I read my first Gene Stratton-Porter novel some months ago and loved it! I am now in the process of reading them all in the order they were published. I understand this, although a novel, has some basis in the author's real life. The characters in her family are all so fine, true, upstanding, faithful that I wish they were my neighbors. Life was simpler back then (early 1900s) but it was refreshing to read about a time when there were no phones, computers, cars, etc. I do think the ending was a bit contrived and wished she had described the final event as thoroughly as a similar one earlier in the book. My favorite parts were the spelling bee, little sister giving the Princess' message to Laddie and Laddie advising the Princess' father of his qualities. There are so many many more!

Best ENFP book out there!

I am about halfway through this ENFP guide and I noticed no one has written review for it. Having read a large number of ENFP books and sections in other career/personality books I already am finding this to be my favorite for a number of reasons.

1. It isn't ridiculously short! The stand alone books and the sections for any individual type within a larger book all seem somewhat lacking in depth due to lack of content.

2. This book seems to really dish out the positive and negative aspects of this personality type. In turn it explains how to work towards strengths and manage weaknesses.

3. The author has really constructed something which hits you from many angles. There are cited aspects for how ENFP people develop over their lives. There are layers of other personality subsets using other personality profiles, and suggestions for looking further into this new info. There is a lot of input from other fellow ENFPs.

4. In every section the info seems so valid, but beyond that there have been many quotes, suggestions and descriptions that have really hit home and given me "the feels" or made me laugh out loud. Obviously I can't guarantee you will feel the same but if you are an ENFP it's probable you will and that you will love feeling understood and validated! ;-)

I will gladly update this review when I have finished the book, but I wanted to put something out there to encourage people to give this book a go if they are looking for more information on the ENFP personality. This book is much better than the cheapies or the freebies or the "one chapter" in any of the bigger books like "What Color is Your Parachute?", etc. Well worth $4.99!

UPDATE: Sorry I forgot to update this when I finished reading the book. That said, I am not sure there is that much more to be written which I haven't already covered. I've read a lot of published material on the personality types, and ENFPs in particular, but this book is hands-down my favorite ENFP resource out there as it is thorough, comprehensive, affordable and well-written. There are a lot of self-published books out there that make the inner-editor in many of us cringe, and this isn't one of those books. My hope is that all the types get a book as great as this one, as it is a valuable resource. Thanks, Heidi Priebe!

At 35 years of age I finally get myself !

Omg this is me, this is me ! What can I say - Firstly, well go out and download it right now. Secondly, years, seriously years of therapy for self esteem issues did not give me such a clear understanding and appreciation of myself. There's nothing scientific about it but once you understand who you are, how you function, what makes you tick everything else makes sense and everything that didn't make sense before eg crappy friendships, terrible relationships, wrong job choices you get that aha! eureka ' that's the reason why' moment.

This is the best ENFP book out there.

I admit that I feared I might be getting a book full of information that could have easily been found on the Internet and I am so glad that I was proven wrong. This was the first book that not only explained cognitive functions to me in a way I understood, but also how those functions interact. Understanding that made the way that I think made so much more sense. I loved the chapter on follow-through because that is a daily struggle in my life. While the author shows that there are many positive traits about being an ENFP, I was so glad that she mentioned the dark side of the personality and what it looks like when shadow functions manifest because that was something I was going through then and I never knew how an ENFP specific downward spiral looked or how to climb up from it. The ENFP inclination to relate to introversion was touched on here. I also liked how the general compatibility to each type was explored.All this information was exactly what I was interested in. I love this book and I hope other types are blessed enough to get a book just as good about them.

GREAT GUIDE FOR THOSE WHO ARE "TECH CHALLENGED"

Purchased a new computer and Windows XP is no longer an option. Having heard many stories about VISTA, I chose WINDOWS 7. When the computer arrived, the format is very different from what I was use to on XP and being Tech Challenged I ordered this book. It is GREAT!!!!! Gives you step by step help in a language easy to understand. I highly suggest to anyone who is not a Tech sWizard to get this if switching from an old Windows system to WINDOWS 7.

My brother's feedback indicated that the book was a marvelous aid to his recent interest in "finally getting with it" as far as computers goes; He went on to say that he found the index to be quite comprehensive, thus adding to the ease of utilizing the book as a reference tool!

An answer for lousy owners manuals.

I had to give this book a 5 star review. Granted, most of what is in it I already knew. Still, the book is well written and there were things in it I did not know. The books biggest plus is that many of todays computers have really lousy owners manuals, I mean really lousy. The 'better' manual you have to go one line to see; I find this irritating. That is where this book comes in. It applies or tries to apply to all PC's. So if you are new to PC's this book will be a godsend and if you are not so new to them you will still find the book of use at times. The books biggest problem is that the author is not quite as funny as he would seem to think and is at times 'corny'. No matter.

An Ezy Way Out - Shame

I love any book that concentrates on the sessions rather than the gossip and dirt. This book rather answers the basic need but obviously does not fullfil it. This book is the easy way out: a result of an effortless work for passing some time with nothing better to do. Or - lack of ability.
First this book certainly lacks ingredients that are a MUST in this kind of resources:
an Index!!! come on guy, this is so basic it's an unprofessional attitude not to include it. How can I follow the development of a recording without it.
Bad editing: have a look at the Beatles Sessions book to know what I mean. A minimal requirement is to have the name of the songs dealt with in that session next to the date and session details. The titles are not even bold letters in the text.
Dicography - Such a book needs a REAL comprehensive discography with refference to the sessions mentioned. Again, Mcdermott chose the ezy way out: "Selected Discography". Whenever I see Selected Discography I know it's not a result of a thorough deep research but just the easy way out to add another item to the content and few more pages to the book. Same here - a bad lacking discography that adds nothing. Mcdermott did not even take the effort to refer the discography to the sessions he has just filled a whole book with.

in addition to the above, the text lacks a lot of the pro side expected of a studio sessions book, a real disappointment on my side. Having so many recordings available today, Hendrix Sessions book could be much better and comprehensive.

I hope some talented author will take upon himself the task for a "Jimi Hendrix Complete Session and Reference Book".

Saying all of the above, I still hold to this book as it has nice photos and some interesting stories that justify my low investment in this book.

Worth having, but slightly disappointing

I was excited about getting this book, because I'd read Lewisohn's similar book on the Beatles. I love chronological order, and I tried to put a date to each song on Hendrix's first three albums. But what was disappointing was that McDermott seemed to forget to mention several song and their recording dates. But the text is otherwise great reading, and the photos are wonderful. I just wish it truly was "Complete" as the Lewisohn book seems to be.

a good mix of niche transformations only some enjoy

There's a little bit of everything for everybody; a good mix of niche transformations only some enjoy, and stuff everybody and their mother likes. This is both a good and a bad thing - while it has variety, many of the stories (and as a result, changes) are fast-paced and brief; again, a blessing and a curse. The only thing it has in abundance is weight gain. If you're into a lot of different things, it's really worth picking up.
